A sustainable future for sailing? 帆船的永續未來？
While
other sports, most notably motor racing, have made strides towards a greener
footprint, sailing is now attempting to follow suit as it strives for a
sustainable future.
雖然其他的運動都已經邁向綠能的腳步，最顯著的是摩托車賽事，帆船現也逐漸效仿，為永續的未來努力不懈。
The
Monaco Yacht Club (YCM) will host the second annual Monaco Solar Boat Challenge
on July 14-16.
摩納哥遊艇會(YCM)將在七月14-16舉辦第二屆、一年一度的摩納哥太陽能動力艇挑戰賽。
Featuring
boats powered solely by solar panels, the event attempts to start paving the
way for a greener future in sailing.
其特色為船隻僅以太陽能板發電，這項比賽目的在於開始為航行的綠能未來鋪路。
The
competition pits the sailors against each other as they attempt to record the
fastest speed across water.
這場比賽選手們互相競爭，他們試圖以創下最快速度的記錄橫渡水面。
Last
year’s record was set by Dutchman Gerard van der Schaar of the Claifis Private
Energy Solar Team, who clocked a speed of 44.4 km/h over one eighth of a
nautical mile(231.5 meters).
去年的紀錄是由來自Claifis太陽能隊的荷蘭人Gerard創下的，其花了時速44.4公里橫越0.125浬(231.5公尺)。
“Solar
energy is one of the key elements in the pathway towards a sustainable future
and we are fully committed to promote the ultimate synergy of nature, motion
and innovation in motor boating,” said Raffaele Chiulli, president of the
International Union of Powerboating (UIM).

The
UIM has supported the Monaco Yacht Club’s efforts to organize the event, which
has 15 registered teams. Teams from the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, Germany,
Poland and Monaco make up the international field.
國際摩托艇聯盟力挺摩納哥遊艇會籌辦這個賽事，有15隻登記隊伍。隊伍有來自荷蘭、比利時、匈牙利、德國、波蘭和摩納哥，共同組成國際賽事。
“In
Monaco we pay particular attention to everything related th respect for the
environment,” said Bernard d’Alessandri, YCM secretary general. “The enthusiasm
of this new generation of engineers suggests this technology could soon be
applied to the leisure boat sector, including mega-yachts.”

Alongside
the main event will be Vripack Grand Prix, a challenge in which competitors
have the opportunity to build their own solar-powered boats from scratch to
take part in different races.

This
year’s event takes place in Monaco’s picturesque Port Hercules.
